Inside a Wardrobe Styling Session
Zoe shares her experience ..
Hi, I’m Leigh. I’m a stylist and my interest and passion for styling is focused on how we feel in what we wear. How we dress is a form of self expression and I work to empower people to align their sense of self with their style and gain autonomy to dress with ease, clarity and confidence.
I was in Melbourne last week for a mix of eating, playing, shopping, dancing, (more eating!) and working.
Whilst I was there, I was lucky to meet and work with Zoe.
A busy working mum of one, Zoe has a beautiful wardrobe, but found being time-poor, that she was always reaching for the same thing and not making the most of what she had.
My wardrobe styling sessions are designed to help with exactly this issue many of us have! I love to help people really utilise their clothes and explore new and fun ways to wear things. I think so many of us reach for what’s comfortable or what we have the time / capacity to put together (understandable!) and a lot gets left on the literal shelf.
By carving out dedicated time to dive into your wardrobe, review and refine what you have and create new looks you otherwise wouldn’t have the time to play around with, you can breath a whole new lease of life into how you get dressed.
So, here’s what we did..
We started with an Intro call on Zoom (you can book a free call here) where we discussed how she currently felt about her wardrobe, and how she would like to feel post-session. We discussed her lifestyle, goals and likes.
Then, we had a 90 min session where we set out to create go-to outfits for daily life, the seasonal transition and making all her pieces work, not just some.
Zoe kindly share her experience in her brilliant Substack, which you can read and subscribe to here.

Thank you Zoe :)
Below words from Dressed Down:
“So, my goals were:
Have planned outfits I can throw on in the two minutes I have to get dressed
Dress for my current lifestyle, not for my old lifestyle
Find ways to bring my winter wardrobe into a new season.”
We started with identifying pieces I love, so instantly I pulled out my winter uniform, which has been: white t-shirt, grey v-neck sweater, jeans, loafers. With a few subtle tweaks, we bought this outfit into spring.
I also mentioned to Leigh that I bought these black trousers in Tokyo and while I love the cut, and they are so comfortable, I haven’t been wearing them. Maybe because black pants make me feel like a waiter? Not sure. Anyway, she paired them with items from my wardrobe that I already had and honestly wouldn’t have dreamed of doing together, but wouldn’t you know it: they worked.
If there was one gap we identified it was maybe a scarf or thinner sweater that could help break up outfits, giving shape to my more voluminous pieces. We subbed in a thicker cardigan here, but I love the effect. I never would have put this floatier top with a rigid blazer, but with the jewellery and the shoes it all just made sense!
She also created this look with the same jacket, and the grey and the brown together is just magnificent! Bring on open toe shoe season, PLEASE Melbourne.
Another dressier pant I wanted to wear more casually was these Frankie Shop cargo pants. I feel like I’ve tried a version of this before and failed, because I was missing the cinch the black belt gives, and the interest provided by the layers on top. You can tell by the look on my face that she cracked the case!

Zoe valued comfort, quality, locally made pieces and feeling like herself. So this was the basis upon which we built her outfits.
We played around with multiple ways to style each look for different occasions. Adding a small heel and statement earring or a sneaker and extra layer (scarf / jumper) for something more casual. Honouring what you value and the essence of your style and simply making small changes like this, create great versatility whilst still staying true to dressing ‘like you.’
We created many more looks and had so much fun!
