What a Wardrobe Styling session really looks like
The steps and method I took to meet a client's wardrobe goals
My Wardrobe Styling service is a 1:1 consultation that is tailored to each person’s individual needs.
We utilise their wardrobe by reviewing and editing things that no longer feel aligned and creating looks with the pieces they love and want to be wearing more of.
Often, client’s are surprised to discover they have a treasure trove of options that can be mixed and matched into countless outfits.
I really believe in the connection our wardrobes have to who we are. It is an extension of our values, interests, inspirations, wants and needs, wherever we realise it or not. Someone who values quality food and fabrics in their home, will also value the quality of their clothing.
A person that thrives on adventure, new landscapes and travel, will likely be drawn to a range of colours and varying styles and ideas in their wardrobe.
By spending time reviewing what we already have, we can edit out the things that don’t feel like us, and nurture the pieces that do, allowing a feeling of alignment in what we’re wearing.
This greats a foundation upon which we can base all our outfits and shopping choices on for years to come.
I worked my friend Ali and her wardrobe recently and she has kindly allowed me to share what we worked on with you. Here’s what we did to meet her goals with her wardrobe ..
Step 1. Intro Call.
I asked Ali how she was feeling about her wardrobe and about any issues or pain points she was experiencing. We explored how she wants to feel instead and the values that will support her in achieving this day to day.
By understanding what she values (aka finds important to her well being and feeling good) I can help identify what does and doesn’t support that in her wardrobe.
Values can look like: feeling easeful, effortless, considered, stylish, trend-focused, comfortable, figure-flattering, polished, aligned, ‘like-myself’, chic and so on.
We discovered Ali has some pieces in her wardrobe that she wasn’t wearing but wanted to. Our goal was to really utilise the pieces she had carefully curated over time whilst honouring her values of quality and comfort.
I explained the process with her and how to prep for our in-person session.
Step 2. Q+A.
I send my client’s a Q+A to complete to further explore wants, needs, goals, likes, dislikes, dream outcomes and more.
Step 3. In Person session. (Zoom sessions available worldwide.)
As mentioned our goal for this session was to really utilise the pieces Ali had, creating go-to looks so getting dressed felt easeful and considered day to day. We wanted to also explore if there were any gaps that would really tie her wardrobe together.
Ali’s wardrobe was made up of great separates that were minimal, well made and carefully selected. She had a new pair of jeans, so I started with those. Building looks as we went…
Ali had some shirts that she wasn’t wearing so I focused on incorporating these into every day looks that she loved, by using pieces she gravitates to naturally.
We also looked at trans-seasonal layering.
By doing a deep dive such as this, we could really see what she has and that a lot of it works beautifully together. It also allows us to see what was missing: A pair of ballet flats, pair of mules, a jacket and a white top to wear with a special outfit she needed for an event.
Step 4. Style Guide.
Post-session, I sent Ali a style guide complete with the looks we styled together and some suggestions for possible purchases to fill in those gaps we discovered during the session.
This is a point of reference that she can refer back to whenever she needs an outfit when in a rush or some inspiration.
Investing the time and effort into yourself and your wardrobe like this creates space for inspiration, whilst solidifying a foundation of what is important and aligned to you. Making getting dressed, shopping and feeling ‘like you’ so much easier.
